Mini-making project 3 - A play structure
Here's how to make a structure! Please scroll through the images below for complete instructions. Make sure you get an adult to help you with anything you find tricky. Have fun!
Cane (1 x 160cm, 6 x 110cm, 4 x 65cm), string, pegs, scissors, pencil, old sheets/scrap fabric.
Using three of the 110cm canes tie them into a triangle, you will need to cut approximately 50cm of string for each join.
Bind each join, securing it with a double knot. This will hold the cane together well.
Once you have made one triangle, repeat this process with the remaining three 110cm canes.
You should now have two equilateral triangles.
Stand one of your triangles up and take the longest cane (160cm) and slot it into the V between the two short pieces of cane after the join.
Tie this securely and join the other triangle to the other end of the long cane in the same way.
Now take one of the short canes (65cm) and tie one end to the triangle and the other end to the long cane, as shown above. This will create a small triangle, making the structure stronger.
Now rotate the structure, so you can repeat this process on the other side of the long cane.
The two shorter canes will meet and can be tied together above the long cane. Now repeat this process with the two remaining short canes at the other end of the structure, creating a strong frame.
Your frame for your structure should now look like this.
This image shows what each end of your structure should look like.
You can now use your old sheets or fabric to cover your structure, use pegs to help secure the fabric in place.
